  10. Description
  11. -----------

  13. QuikGrid is a program written for MS WINDOWS which will read in a set of
  14. scattered data points (x, y, z) which represents a surface. The program
  15. will generate a regular grid from this data and then display the surface
  16. as a contour map, or as a grid viewed from an arbitrary viewpoint, with
  17. hidden lines removed. The display may be zoomed and panned using the
  18. left mouse button. Data about features on the display may be selected
  19. using the right mouse button.
  20.  
  21. QuikGrid runs under MS WINDOWS 3.1 or later. An 80 by 80 grid
  22. representing 1000 scattered data points will typically be gridded in 10
  23. to 20 seconds on a 33Mhz 486. A 125 by 125 grid (the maximum allowed)
  24. representing 15,000 data points will be gridded in less than a minute on
  25. the same machine. This program makes no special demands on the PC and
  26. will run on much smaller machines at a (much) slower speed. The display
  27. may be copied to the clipboard, printed or output as a DXF file which
  28. may be used as input to Autocad or other programs that accept that
  29. format. The grid may be output as a series of XYZ triplets or in the ER
  30. Mapper raster format.

  32. QuikGrid is a lean program. It is easy to use and is very fast. It will
  33. run on modest hardware platforms. It is well suited in situations where
  34. it is desired to have a quick look at a set of data points, for example
  35. under field conditions where only a portable PC is available.

  39. Installation
  40. ------------

  42. If you are installing from a diskette:
  43.   1) Under Windows 3.1 click on the Program Manager "File" menu.
  44.      Under Windows 95 click on the "Start" button.  
  45.   2) Choose "Run" from the menu.
  46.   3) Type "A:INSTALL" or "B:INSTALL" depending on which drive
  47.      the installation diskette is in.

  49. If you are installing from a down-loaded ZIP file:
  50.   1) Create a temporary directory on drive C.
  51.   2) Copy the Zipped archive file to the temporary directory
  52.      and unzip the Installation files into it.
  53.   3) Under Windows 3.1 click on the Program Manager "File" menu.
  54.      Under Windows 95 click on the "Start" button.
  55.   4) Choose "Run" from the menu.
  56.   5) Type "C:(temporary directory)\INSTALL"
  57.   6) When installation is complete you may delete the temporary
  58.      directory and the files it contains.

  60. Distribution

  63. The evaluation version of QuikGrid may be distributed freely. It is a
  64. fully functional version of the program if the number of data points
  65. input to the program is less than 100. For more than 100 data points the
  66. evaluation version will not support many functions present in the
  67. registered version (for example copying the display to the clipboard is
  68. disabled if more than 100 data points are input).

  129. interesting. A quote from the conclusion of the article "Contouring: Art

  131. interpretations - they are not absolutely correct. "
